The Construct3D organizing team has been grappling with what it means that our last conference at Rice University has bizarrely become the last physical in-person education-focused conference many of us will attend in 2020. And what we have been learning from our attendees and presenters and keynote speakers -- our work for 2020 is far from over.

We know that educators are now facing new challenges and the Construct3D community of educators and industry leaders are here to work together to figure out where and how we go on from here.

  • How can we educator and industry allies adapt to the new realities of teaching 3D printing and digital fabrication in the rapidly evolving landscape where online teaching dominates?

  • How can we do hands-on without any hands on any things?

  • Where are the best resources to help each of us not reinvent the wheel (while also inventing entirely new ways to teach)?

  • How to better serve everyone in our communities?

Welcome to the Construct3D (Virtual) Summer Symposium!

In this series, we will cover a range of topics, including the following:

  • Curriculum and learning outcome expectations for virtual teaching of digital fabrication.

  • Online teaching technology - what works, how do we hack it, how can we engage our students and make this experience better?

  • How do we use these new virtual-focused scenarios to strongly boost each other and our students on the software/code side of 3D art, design, and fabrication operations?

Because many of the needs are immediate, our emphasis will be on providing IMMEDIATELY actionable example projects and templating presentation strategies that can be lovingly ripped from this series and hacked right into place in your own teaching. So every session that we offer we promise to have things ready for you to experiment with and use, not just long think pieces about what educators may or may not do. Let’s get stuff done!

We have some immediate call to actions for you to consider:
CALL TO ACTION 01 - Would you like to propose a topic or session that would make a difference for yourself or your peers?

Do you have a lesson or a workflow that you yourself would like to share on video in the Symposium series? Contact us at liz@construct3Dconf.com and Liz will quickly switchboard connect you to the session programming teams

CALL TO ACTION 02 - Would you like to join the Construct3D Virtual Summer Symposium action team?

We are looking to harness as many tools and resources as possible to help educators prepare for summer and fall programming in virtual and hybrid scenarios. We welcome a wide range of energy levels from those contributing a few more Recipe cards to those who will help us build resource sites to augment and extend the summer component sessions so that we get more and better tools in the hands of our peers. Contact us at liz@construct3Dconf.com and Liz will quickly forward your request to the right resource team so you can roll up your sleeves and join us to help your fellow educators.

Together, we hope to support each other through these times. And maybe we will learn things that will boost how this range of technologies can be incorporated into education for the long term: this might end up helping all of us rebuild our use of 3D printing and digital fabrication with more intentionality and better success for our learners.
